RE: French Marine Educator Work Experience Placement

We are looking for 7 highly self-motivated, energetic and enthusiastic students to fill the French Marine Educator Work Experience Placement. This placement will provide an excellent opportunity for students to gain teaching experience, develop communication skills across multiple languages, develop a sense of teamwork and explore career options. Applicants will be accepted based on a student's work experience objectives and personal interests, as indicated in a cover letter and resume, in English or French, as well as the needs of the Education Department.

·         Mandatory Training:
Friday, May 3, 2013     9:30am-3pm

·         Participate in one full shift per week:   
Fridays:    Friday, May 10, 2013-Friday, June 28, 2013 (8 weeks)

·         Shift Time: 9:30 am-2pm (4.5 hours/week)

·         Total Commitment: Approx. 40 hours
Description of Volunteer Opportunity:
As an educator of this program, your main role will involve leading a small group of K-3 level students on a guided journey throughout the Aquarium in order to inspire wonder and curiosity and develop a sense of appreciation for the world’s oceans and the aquatic life found among them.

Skills Preferred:
·         Experience educating or interacting with children;
·         Outgoing, enthusiastic, self-motivated, creative and friendly with a positive can-do attitude;
·         Students in grade 10, 11 and 12;
·         Interested in and passionate about marine life and environmental conservation;
·         High level of professionalism and commitment;
·         Strong oral English and French language communication skills.(Must be able to communicate elementary level concepts in both languages.  Training with regard to specific concepts and terminology to be used where required, will be provided).
