Gene Researcher For a Week     Spring Break   2013


WANTED:
Ambitious Grade 11 & 12 students (or equivalent) with an innate curiosity for science
and human genetics
WHY:
To participate in the prestigious Gene Researcher for a Week (GRFAW) program
– your opportunity to gain insight into the world of genetic diseases through a
mentorship in one of Canada’s top genetic labs. This is a hands-on program where
you will participate in the activities in the lab.
Participants can learn how genes cause human genetic disorders and how top
scientists translate these findings into treatments and cures for genetic diseases.
The GRFAW mentoring program is a great opportunity for YOU to learn about human
genetics research and connect with the scientific community.

The JHRC is a world-class institution focused on developing solutions to cardiopulmonary diseases.
We want to inspire and connect with young people who have an interest in experiencing life science research. Eight students will be selected to join our labs for a full week. All Fall 2012 participants will be eligible to apply for the 2013 Peter D. Paré Science Scholarship, a summer internship at JHRC.

Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience what working in a life science research lab is all about like

Cypress Mountain Work Experience

 
ATTENTION STUDENTS 15 –– 19 YEARS OLD!!
            Cypress Mountain Youth West Program

Would you like to:
1. Gain valuable experience in a fun and friendly environment?
2. Meet new friends?
3. Ski or snowboard for free in your spare time?

The Youth W.E.S.T. program at Cypress Mountain offers training and work experience to give you employment ready skills and prepare you for ski resort employment. Upon successfully completing the program, students will have the background needed for full or part time employment in a variety of entry-level ski area positions. The basic workplace skills developed while participating in this program will also be valuable in any employment environment.

Work Experience
Youth W.E.S.T participants will work on the mountain three days per month from November/December to March/April plus a few additional hours over Christmas and Spring Break. You will be trained and gain hands on experience in 3 areas of ski resort operations: Base Operations, Food & Beverage Services, and Ski/Snowboard Rentals.

Youth W.E.S.T Level II
Students who successfully complete the first level of the program may enroll in a second level of the program, which provides more in depth training and work experience in on-hill departments of Cypress Mountain (Junior Patrol or Snow School).

Saturday Oct. 20th
Volunteers needed 11am-2pm and 2pm-6pm (or any time in-between)



Activites will include:
Setting up tents and tables, running carnival games for kids, facepainters assistant, and other duties

Looking for as many people as possible, especially at the begining and end of the event

                    Grab a couple of friends and have FUN helping out!!
