RE: Fall 2012 Work Experience Placement

The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting 15 for our fall 2012 Work Experience Placement. As a work experience student, they will be working within a team of students and staff to create the ultimate visitor experience for all of our visitors this fall. Their days will be filled with fun and varied tasks and they will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world!

*Short listed candidates will be invited for a group interview at the aquarium. Candidates will be contacted by October 11, 2012.

                                  9:00am – 5:00pm
Group A October 22 – November 10  (5 students)
Specific Dates: October 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30,
November 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10

Group B November 11 – December 1 (5 students)
Specific Dates: November 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30, December 1

Group C December 2 – December 21 (5 students)
Specific Dates: December 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21

Shift times 9:15am – 4:00pm
Description of Volunteer Opportunity:
·         Kiosk Attendant
·         Visitor Surveys
·         Crafts
·         Operating touch pools
·         4D assistant
·         Face painting
·         Information Desk Attendant
·         Educational Carts

Skills Preferred:
·         Outgoing, enthusiastic and self-motivated
·         Students currently in Grade 10, 11 or 12.
·         Genuine interest in working with the public
·         Strong communications skills
·         Experience with delivering excellent customer service
·         Second language an asset

Please Note: This is not an animal handling position.  Students will have limited contact with marine animals.

Artist for KIDS needs volunteers!!


Volunteer at Artist for Kids

We have a couple of upcoming events that we need volunteers for. Following are the details. If you can help with either please reply to this email. We greatly appreciate it.
1. September 26 6:30 to 9 pm
We are looking for 4 people to assist in serving appetizers at our patron/donor evening. Some experience in serving and food safe an asset but not a requirement. Attire should be white or black shirt and black pants.
2. October 13 10 am to 3 pm
Gallery Opening.
. We are still looking for several people to assist in various capacities. No training necessary. We are looking for people to direct our guests, assist at art activities, show people around the building and to hand out favours. If you are available for one of the following shifts, please let us know.
