MineralEd's Career Exploration Program (Roundup 2015)

MineralsEd invites secondary students to attend AME BC's Mineral Exploration Roundup on Jan. 26 to learn about the modern minerals industry and the diversity of careers it offers. This experience will benefit those interested in:

  • Earth Science
  • Mining
  • Engineering
  • or related fields such as business and accounting, investment banking and securities, environmental management, back country expediting, etc.

Our program will include a presentation by mining executive,

  • Haytham Hodaly, Sr. VP Corporate Development with Silver Wheaton,

as well as by several young professionals by working in different fields in the minerals industry:

  • Jason Courneyea, Exploration Geologist
  • Nicole Westcott, Environmental Services, Stantec
  • Julia Gartley, Mineral Process Engineer, Taseko Mines
  • Jessica Park, Human Resources Administrative Assistant, New Gold
  • Hamzeh Najarian, Certified Management Accountant, New Gold
  • Kim Dioszeghy, Junior Engineer, Sustainability, Eldorado Gold

The program will also include a career-focussed exploration of the trade show exhibits, and hands-on gold panning with Yukon Dan. Students will be accompanied throughout the day by BCIT, SFU, UBC, UVIC, U of A, and other post-secondary geosciences and mining students, as well as by MineralsEd staff. Our student guides will also share insights on their backgrounds and their educational or work experiences in their field so far.

Evergreen - Citizen Scientist (Uncover your Creeks)

Uncover your Creeks is a citizen science training program combined with stewardship activities.  By monitoring water quality and removing invasive species and replacing them with native plants, students can help to ensure that Mahon's Park's Wagg Creek waterway remains a vital and functioning park of the urban ecosystem. 

Meeeting is on the first Monday of each month

Evergreen, the City of North Vancouver and local stewards are working together in your community through invasive removal and native plantings.
