Learn More
Join one of our Uncover Your Creeks volunteers as she maps native and non-native plants in Vancouver.
Come and learn how to monitor plant biodiversity in urban parks around Vancouver! Biodiversity provides benefits to urban areas including carbon storage, a greater mixture of habitat for animals, and diverse flowers for pollinators. The City of Vancouver, along with community stewardship groups, manage parks to increase native plant biodiversity. Through this citizen-science monitoring activity, you’ll learn how to identify native and non-native plant species in the Vancouver area. The data we collect will inform future management practices of the City of Vancouver. We’ll use a simplified version of vegetation plot monitoring used by professional biologists. Through this activity you’ll gain hands-on experience in ecological field work methods.
Do you enjoy being outdoors and meeting new people? Have you ever wanted to learn more about plants and animals in Vancouver? Do you want to learn standard ecological field work methods? Then come join us as we monitor urban park biodiversity!

Introductory ecology information sheets, plant identification books, 50 m measuring tapes and orange field flags will be provided.
