The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Synapse Mentorship program is underway again this year. We have many mentorship opportunities available in a wide range of research areas including: biology, genetics, chemistry, neurosciences, cancer, immunology to name a few.

The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting 14 students for our Visitor Experience Winter Host Work Experience Placement. As a work experience student, they will be working within a team of students and staff to create the ultimate visitor experience for all of our visitors this winter. Their days will be filled with fun and varied tasks and they will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world!

There are over $15,000 in prizes up for grabs this year, and we are looking for some talented high-school bands and solo artists to compete for this year's title of BC's Best Teen Band 2012.

SPES will host a timely panel discussion of the ecological impact of oil spills on marine and intertidal wildlife as part of our Annual General Meeting on October 22With Kinder Morgan’s plans to expand the Trans Mountain pipeline and bring 300 to 400 tankers a year through the Burrard Inlet, this is an issue that many of us care about.
The panelists are: Lance Barrett-Lennard, Senior Marine Mammal Scientist at Vancouver Aquarium, Robyn Worcester, Conservation Programs at Manager Stanley Park Ecology Society, and Ben West, Healthy Communities Campaigner at Western Canada Wilderness Committee. Park Commissioner, Niki Sharma is the moderator.
Refreshments are provided, thanks to Whole Foods and ethical bean coffee.

The JHRC is a world-class institution focused on developing solutions to cardiopulmonary diseases.
We want to inspire and connect with young people who have an interest in experiencing life science research. Eight students will be selected to join our labs for a full week. All Fall 2012 participants will be eligible to apply for the 2013 Peter D. Paré Science Scholarship, a summer internship at JHRC.

Cypress Mountain Youth West Program
Would you like to:
1. Gain valuable experience in a fun and friendly environment?
2. Meet new friends?
3. Ski or snowboard for free in your spare time?
The Youth W.E.S.T. program at Cypress Mountain offers training and work experience to give you employment ready skills and prepare you for ski resort employment. Upon successfully completing the program, students will have the background needed for full or part time employment in a variety of entry-level ski area positions. The basic workplace skills developed while participating in this program will also be valuable in any employment environment.
Work Experience
Youth W.E.S.T participants will work on the mountain three days per month from November/December to March/April plus a few additional hours over Christmas and Spring Break. You will be trained and gain hands on experience in 3 areas of ski resort operations: Base Operations, Food & Beverage Services, and Ski/Snowboard Rentals.
