Youth Train in Trades Carpentry Info Night

Image result for youth train in trades

The Youth Train In Trades (YTT) Carpentry Program provides training for Grade 11 and 12 students interested in a career in carpentry and related trades. Based at West Vancouver Secondary, students receive training every second day, while attending their own secondary school for core academic subjects. This program is open to students across the North Shore, regardless of their home school. Students, parents and guardians should attend the information session on Wednesday February 5, 2020 from 6:45 – 7:15 pm prior to course selection deadlines. Students selecting this program will be asked to attend an interview with their parents/guardians after applications are reviewed.
This intensive program allows students to receive technical training typically done at a post-secondary institution while working toward high school graduation. Each student accepted into the program is registered as a trainee with the Industry Training Authority (ITA).

Sustainabiliteens - North Shore Chapter on Climate Justice (Volunteer)

 Image result for sustainabiliteens

The pursuit of climate justice has emerged as one of the most important and urgent global issues of our time, and the voices of youth have risen as a powerful force in organizing for change.
Our 2019 cohort of the North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA’s Youth Leadership Council on Climate Action demonstrated the initiative that high school students are capable of taking to bring people together on the issues that matter to them when given the platform to do so. By lifting up the voices of young people, we enable their efforts to create community around an issue that fundamentally impacts their futures.
That’s why I will be supporting the Sustainabiliteens in establishing a North Shore Chapter of their School Collective Program this year in lieu of creating a 2020 cohort of the North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA’s Youth Leadership Council.

Grade 10, 11, and 12 high school students are invited to join the Sustainabiliteens: North Shore Chapter. This will be an independent youth-led community group with full autonomy over their organizing activities and structure that aims to “create systemic change from a foundation of a strong community”.

Applications for the first intake are being accepted until 4pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
