They are recruiting for the following positions:

Gallery Assistant - 28 students
Marine Educator Aqua Camp - 80 full time & 25 part time students
Summer Interpretative Delivery - 40 students
Marine Educator Wet Lab - 12 students


For Youth interested in volunteering this Summer:


Step 2: Check all available work experience positions this summer for youth (click on the ‘our opportunities’ link in Step #2 or view the attached PDF) to see if something catches your interest and availability.

Step 3: Ensure you can attend our volunteer training dates, as well as all the dates of the placement you are most interested in. (Please note you must attend 1 core training session before beginning your placement).

Core training Dates:
Option 1: Sunday June 14th from 10am to 4pm
Option 2: Sunday, June 28th from 10am to 4pm

Option 3: Sunday, July 19th from 10am to 4pm
Option 4: Sunday, July 26th from 10am to 4pm

Option 5: Sunday, August 9th from 10am to 4pm

Step 4: Sign up (using the link in this step and by scrolling down to the bottom of the webpage) for one of our Information Sessions on either Thursday, May 21, 2015 or Monday, May 25, 2015 from 5:30pm – 8:30pm. Please note that doors open at 5:15 pm for a prompt 5:30pm start.

If you are previous work experience student and have already completed a placement with us during 2014/2015 you do not need to attend an information session. Please simply email workexperience@vanaqua.org to inquire further about roles available.

* Please note: only registered participants will be allowed to attend this event. Limited volunteer positions are available and participation in the info session does not automatically guarantee a volunteer placement.

Camp Ignite - Firefighting Camp for Girls only


Camp Ignite is a four-day camp that educates and inspires young women through fire fighting activities designed to encourage teamwork, courage commitment, strength of character and health and fitness.  It will help girls realize a future of limitless opportunities and that regardless of gender, anything is possible.


Camp will run from August 6-9, 2015 in the Vancouver Area
Students must grades 11-16 (ages 16-18)

Showcases invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement.  It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds.  Lots of fun on-site activities like cardboard box making, to feats of engineering, robotics and crafting. Digital Animation Workshop - City Library

 
3D Digital Animation Workshop
for Teens in Grades 7 to 12
Every Tuesdays, runs 4 weeks May 5th-26th  4:00-5:30pm
North Vancouver City Library

3rd year students from Emily Carr University’s animation program are teaching this workshop, and they are amazing!   This workshop provides the basics of 3D animation using Maya software.

2015 Honda Celebration of Light Volunteers

This year we are celebrating the firework festival's 25th anniversary, and are gearing up for the biggest and brightest year yet!


We need over 250 volunteers each night to help put on the event.  Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age who can commit to a minimum of 2 volunteer shifts (10 hours) on July 25th, 29th and August 1st. 

Duties include from traffic barrier operators to ticket takers, to zero-waste program volunteers and include training for all roles.

Photoshop Computer Assistant



 
Susanna Blunt, painter, sculptor and jewellery designer, requires assistance with the Photoshop computer program, working on compositions for an art project in her studio/home in Norgate.
 
Preferably a Grade 11 or 12 student.
 
In exchange for this volunteer service, she is willing to mentor the successful candidates in their own projects with composition, colour, etc. as well as share her extensive art library.

4 days of paid work for Level 1 First Aid

DL Safety Consulting Company based in the Lower Mainland are looking for any First aid certified people looking to gain experience in the medical field.

We are looking for one to four, Level 1 (or Higher), First aid attendants for the
'Challenge Cup'.

The days and times available are as follows
Friday, May 15th         (12 pm to 9 pm)
Saturday, May 16th     (8 am to 9 pm)
Sunday, May 17th       (8 am to 9 pm)
Monday, May 18th      (8 am to 3 pm)

Venues:
Ice Sports North Shore
Richmond Ice Arena
UBC Arena

This position pays 10.50/per hour and will be paid once hours of work
are completed.

Duties will include:
Monitoring the Hockey Games, assist in any injuries that may occur,
directly respond to minor injuries and will respond quickly to 911
emergencies by summoning the proper authorities.

Candidates must wear Black Pants and a white top, be well groomed, and are not to be on their cell phone during work hours.

Sutherland Schoolyard Market Garden - Volunteer Opportunities

Get Involved!


 
We'll need all the help we can get on building and maintaining the garden.   All ages are welcome to sign up. Work starts from
May 1st to end of the school year.
 
Learn from the farmers and gardeners and get a sense of what growing food on a large scale looks like.  Tasks include prepare beds for planting, plant seedlings, weed and much more!

Skills:
  • No gardening experience required!
  • Work well with others and in a team environment
  • ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Gala Event - various shifts between 5:00pm &11:00pm
    greeting at the door, bar ticket sales, help clearing the tables, dish scraping/stacking crew
     
  • Tear-down after 11:00pm
    must be able to lift and carry furniture, crates or dishes


 Saturday, May 30th

  • Parade Route Marshalls -8:00 to 10:30am
    help muster the floats and montor route to make sure everyone keeps moving
     
  • Cookshack - 3 shifts (8:00am-11:30am or 11:00am -2:15pm or 2:00pm-5:15pm)
    help with cooking, taking tickets or serving the food
     
  • Entertainment - 3 shifts (9:30am-12-30pm or 12:15pm-3:15pm or 3:00-6:00pm)
    supervise games and ride for kids
     
  • Tear-down  (4:45pm to 6:30pm) 
    move tables, chairs, tents and other furniture, signs

Volunteers Needed! - Ridgeway Spring Fair


Ridgeway Elementary Spring Fair
Saturday, May 9th 
11:30am - 2:30pm


We are looking for volunteers for three specific parts of the fair, or all of them together!

-set up from 9:30-11:30. 
-helping to man a fun station during the hours of the fair. 
-clean up/take down from 2:30-4:00

Stations this year include, two bouncy castles, climbing wall, bouncy slide, tennis pro, pitch burst dunk-tank, make your own cd and more. 

In particular we're hoping to find creative kids to help with our Henna tattoo and face painting Stations. 

We will need 3 helpers per one hour shift during the hours of 11:30-2:30 for both stations. 

In return, we are happy to provide a letter towards any school work experience / volunteer credit from the Ridgeway PAC detailing the volunteer hours that were provided.

As a leader/coach, you As a leader/coach, you will be responsible for teaching primary-school children the fundamentals of basketball. To work with these children, you must be energetic, positive and enjoy working with children. Great leadership and teamwork skills are essential. 


The after-school program runs from 3:15-4:15pm (late March to mid-June) at various elementary schools.
