Welcome to Winterruption on Granville Island, our eighth annual, truly unique Vancouver winter festival, February 22 – 24, 2013!

Granville Island loves kids!  Visit the Kids Zone to make a mask or make music. Clown around with Ben LaBarouette, sing along with Will Stroet and his Backyard Band, and join Mortal Coil’s colourful towering stiltwalkers and The Brotherhood of  Brass Band as they wind their way through the streets of Granville Island.
At Performance Works, Coastal Jazz and Blues Society presents amazing music all weekend long.
If you *heart* original, local art, you’ll want to spend all weekend visiting exhibits and touring artists’ & artisans’ studios throughout the island. Join [ART]ifacts: The Granville Island Story, a tour exploring art and culture through a mosaic of eye-catching, unique, historic and innovative creations.  Red Hot Press is presented by Dundarave Print Workshop in the Net Loft, Western Canada's oldest artist run cooperative printmaking studio and gallery, and Emily Carr University along with Opus Art Supplies offer tours and workshops all weekend.
The Island is alive with theatre and dance. See where the magic begins - behind the scenes – in the costume and production shop, or learn “The Art of the Bow” at the Arts Club Theatre Company. Expect the unexpected as some of Vancouver's favourite dancers pop up in unusual spaces all over the Island, or take the little ones to Dr. Suess’s The Cat in the Hat presented by Carousel Theatre at the Waterfront Theatre.

Minerals Ed for potential Engineering, business students

MineralsEd 2013 Secondary Student Day at Roundup
Jan 28, 2013Location: Mineral Exploration Roundup 2013, Westin Bayshore, Vancouver

For the tenth year in a row, MineralsEd is extending a special invitation to secondary students interested in learning more about the modern minerals industry and careers it offers. Special invited guests will be students from Ms. Jennifer Artibise' Geology 12 class at West Vancouver Secondary. Their geology projects will be on display all week.

Students from other secondary schools are invited them for this unique learning opportunity. Students who can benefit most from the experience have an interest in geoscience, mining, or engineering, or broadly in indirectly-related fields as varied as business and accounting, investment banking and securities, environmental consulting, back country expediting, etc.

The all day program (9am to 3pm) include presentations by young people who are working in different capacities in the industry in the Vancouver area, as well as a career-focussed exploration of the trade show exhibits, and hands-on gold panning with Yukon Dan. Students are accompanied during the day by BCIT, SFU, UBC, UVic, U of A, and other post-secondary geosciences and mining students, as well as MineralsEd staff. These student guides share insights on their backgrounds and learning or work experiences in their minerals related career.
See Mrs Watson in D107      kwatson@nvsd44.bc.ca    to be nominated.

RESUME TIPS

You may already know this...but just in case

DO NOT put on you resume:
-your age or birth date
- your social insurance number
- your picture
- passport info.

This is info you give the employer only AFTER you've been hired.

I know of one employer that shreds any resumes that include this information.

Although it's easy to answer ads on Craigslist it's still most effective to go to the company website to apply or go direct!  All ads should include a company name/ address, contact info besides the craigslist link.

You should not respond if the ad is placed anonymously.

Or go to       http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/intro-eng.aspx
