The 2012 Lynn Valley Days are fast approaching and the Lynn Valley Lions Club and Lynn Valley
Community Association are working hard to make this year's event bigger and better than ever as we
celebrate the 100
A vital part of the success of Lynn Valley Days has always been the many volunteers who work
tirelessly every year to ensure that everything run smoothly over the weekend. We are asking for
your assistance again this year to fill the variety of volunteer positions for both Friday, May 25 and
Saturday, May 26. These are some of the areas you can assist us with (times are approximate and to
be confirmed):

Site Set-Up
- Friday from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, and Saturday from 6 am to 7.30 am
Parade Set-Up and Traffic Control
- Saturday from 8 am to 10 am
Coffee/Pop Sales and Cook Shack
- Saturday from 7.30 am to 4.30 pm
Midway Rides and Games
- Saturday from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm
Site Take-Down and Clean Up
- Saturday from 4 pm to 6 pm

Camp Counselors needed for the North Shore Crisis Services Society

Volunteer Camp Counselors Needed!
Get your planning service hours while having fun in the sun!
Juliana and the ACE Program have another fantastic summer camp planned for this summer for kids between the ages of 7-11. Camp runs on three separate weeks:
                        Week 1: Monday, July 23 - Thursday, July 26
                        Week 2: Monday, July 30 - Thursday, August 2
                        Week 3: Monday August 13 - Thursday August 16

Daily activities may include swimming, crafts, going to Stanley Park and Second Beach pool or the water park, Trout Lake, Science World, or other activities depending on the weather.
Who we are looking for…
                        Ø We are looking for volunteers aged 15 or older to help at our summer day camp. We need volunteers who are positive, energetic and who like working with younger kids. Experience with kids is an asset.
                        Ø As a volunteer, you would assist the camp counsellor to keep the kids organized and involved in the activities, and help to make it a fun experience for all.
                        Ø We need volunteers who can commit to at least one 4-day week, plus one training day
                        Ø On camp days, you would work 8:45 am – 4pm

What we offer…
                        Ø On camp days, we provide breakfast, lunch and snacks
                        Ø We will give you all the information and training you need to make it a rewarding experience
                        Ø Upon completion, we will give you a certificate so that you can apply this experience towards your CAP requirements

JOB with NV Museum and Archives

           Collections Assistant North Vancouver Museum & Archives
8-week Temporary Position
The Friends of the North Vancouver Museum and Archives Society, acting on behalf of the North Vancouver Museum and Archives, is seeking two energetic, conscientious individuals to provide assistance to the Museum Collections Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Collection Assistants will assist with a variety of museum collection management tasks, such as creating and updating documentation on artifacts used in educational programs; preparing artifacts for storage; organizing and inventorying artifacts; scanning images; filing; updating data in the museum database records. The positions are suitable for mature high school students or recent secondary school graduates interested in pursuing work in the cultural, historic or preservation field. At the end of the work term, the students will have gained experience in museum practices and procedures, record keeping and data entry, care of historic artifacts, documentation, and artifact handling and storage techniques.
Qualifications: The successful applicants will have an interest in history and in pursuing a career in museums or other cultural organization, a high degree of computer literacy, ability to follow directions precisely and maintain accuracy, able to walk up stairs and lift up to 20lbs, effective interpersonal and organizational skills, and excellent written and spoken English language skills.
Terms of Employment: This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program of Service Canada and subject to hiring restrictions imposed by that program. The position is open only to applicants between the ages of 15 and 30, who attended school full time last year and intend to return to school full time next year. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants and must commit to the entire work term.

Work Week: 35 hours per week (7 hours/day; Monday-Friday) Start Date: Tuesday, July 3, 2012 End Date: Monday, August 27, 2012 Salary: $13.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay, to be paid with final cheque. We are looking for 4 highly motivated, outgoing students to fill the Membership Assistant Work Experience Placement for July and August. This placement will provide an excellent opportunity for students to acquire behind-the-scenes administrative skills as well as front-line customer service experience. Applicants will be accepted based on the student's work experience objectives and personal interests, as indicated in a cover letter and resume, as well as the needs of the Membership Department team.  

Job Description:  
·         Front-line membership promotion, sales and visitor information
·         Membership data entry using Raiser’s Edge
·         Administrative duties

Please Note:  This is not an Animal Care placement; students will not be working with marine life.

The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting 30 students for our Interpretive Delivery Summer Work Experience Placement.

As a work experience student, you will be working within a team of students, volunteers and staff to create the ultimate educational experience for all of our visitors this summer. Days will be filled with fun tasks ranging from face painting to educating about penguins. You will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world!

Summer Camp for High School Students

Are you a high school student interested in a career in Forensics?
Do you know a high school student who might want to explore a Forensics career?
Students attending the 2010 CSI Academy in Burnaby
This summer camp is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to get hands on experience with real forensic techniques. Learn how real investigators examine and process crime scenes, as well as analyze evidence and use DNA technology to try to solve a crime.
We're looking for high school students going into grades 10, 11 and 12 who want to gain insight into the educational requirements for entrance into the field of forensics, as well as information about programs here at BCIT that they can take to further their forensics careers.
What do students do and learn about at the Academy? Here's some of the hands on experience they'll receive:
  • Identifying and packaging evidence from a crime scene
  • Looking for and identifying trace evidence
  • Analyzing DNA using basic lab techniques

Students will also get the opportunity to learn first hand from real, practising professionals in the following fields:
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Trace Evidence Analysis
  • Forensic Anthropology
  • DNA Analysis
  • Forensic Video and Photography
  • Forensic Knot Analysis
