May 17 More summer stuff to do!!

Volunteer with Musart This Summer!
Cates Park Concert Series every Saturday from Jul. 9-Aug. 20 at Cates Park
This 7-part outdoor concert series showcases three bands every Saturday.  We need four volunteers each concert, from 1pm to 8pm.  The work consists of setting up and taking down the equipment with other small tasks.  In between, volunteers get to enjoy the music.  Food may be provided.

Deep Cove Daze Aug. 28 at Panorama Park
This one-day festival has live music and entertainment, local artisans, a midway of rides/activities for children, food vendors and more.
We need volunteers from Aug. 26-Aug. 29 and for orientation day.

Work includes: pick-up and return of equipment, site set-up and a variety of tasks on the day itself.  Perks are a free event t-shirt and free pizza for volunteers working on the day of the festival.

If you are in Grade 10 and want to take Work Experience - you should consider doing COOP. Coop includes Planning 10, Science 10 AND Work Experience - all during the school day- allowing for better options for work placements!   Send me an email if you want into Coop.

   Summer Camp Work Experience Placement 
 Vancouver Aquarium      
We are looking for 24 highly motivated, energetic students to fill the Summer Camp Work Experience Placement. This placement will provide an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience working with children in an educational setting, work on their communication and leadership skills, develop a sense of teamwork and explore career options. Applicants will be accepted based on the student's work experience objectives and personal interests, as indicated in a cover letter, resume, and completed student information form, as well as an in person interview with the Camps Coordinator.  

 
If you are interested:
To secure a spot for this position we require students to submit a cover letter, resume .  Please clearly state the top three groups you are applying for.  Students applications will be reviewed and applicants will be contacted for an in person interview.        

Please submit required documents to Ms Giraud by Friday May 6th.  Students will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. 

April 28 ULTIMATE volunteers

4-6 reliable students are need to help at the North Shore Ultimate Tournament at Loutet Field on Friday May 6,  from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Volunteers are needed in two shifts; one from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and the second  from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
The responsibilities for this task are to manage the scoreboards for the multiple games taking place and to work the concession. Both these tasks take place at the Main tent area at Loutet.

Ever wonder about the science behind how animals are trained?  How about how humans work with animals, like sea lions, raptors and dogs?  The Vancouver Aquarium invites you to dive into the inner workings of animal psychology and training.
Join us at this free event to learn what it takes to train animals and how you, too, can begin an exciting career in animal training!  This event is part of the Province of British Columbia’s Year of Science, and takes place on Wednesday, May 4th at 6 p.m.
Guest speakers include Nathan Harben (Senior Marine Mammal Trainer, Vancouver Aquarium), Gary Worley (Master Falconer, Radical Raptors), and Mary Chaloner-Blair (Owner and Head Trainer, A Capable Dog).  The evening will be moderated by Dr. Martin Haulena (Veterinarian, Vancouver Aquarium) and will include a live demonstration!

Canadian Red Cross First Aid Courses

Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR/AED is a one-day course for parents and caregivers of children covering skills needed to recognize, prevent and respond to airway, breathing and circulation emergencies. The course covers first aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest, sudden medical emergencies, childhood illnesses, head and spine injuries, wound care and poisons.Courses: Saturday, April 16; Saturday, May 14; & Saturday, June 11, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm @ St. Stephen’s United Church, 7025 Granville Street & 54th Avenue in Vancouver. WEX 12A STUDENTS


All WEX students who have not yet completed WORKSAFE  with Mr Mikkers

MUST attend a meeting Weds at Lunch in Rm B 102- the drafting rm.  (March 30)

You MUST complete WORKSAFE to get the credits for WEX - it is part of the course.
If you volunteered at Grouse or Cypress or elsewhere and did not do worksafe then you need to be at this meeting.
If you have registered for Work experience for next year then you can do WORKSAFE now and get started!!

Do NOT come to the meeting if:
- you are in WEX 12B    - you did worksafe last semester and passed the test.     -you are in COOP or Explorer

If you didn't pass the test or didn't do it then you need to see Mr Mikkers asap and get it done.

ALL Work Experience HOURS and RED Folders must be completed and in to be marked by MAY 31 if you want a grade this semester.
If you are in Grade 10 or 11 you can complete your hours next year.
