RCMP Youth Academy - Info Session



Students (G11-12) and their parents/guardians are invited to attend an

The RCMP is offering a "Police Youth Academy"
for Grades 11  and 12 students from
April 12-20, 2017
 
This program is designed to place the students in a simulated RCMP training environment as well as role playing the realities of policing.  The students that successfully complete each phase of the selection process will attend the Academy and experience a variety of activities that an RCMP cadet would experience but in a condensed format.

Are you interested in a career in law enforcement? Would you like to gain work experience plus 8 days of police related training? If so, the RCMP Youth Academy may be the right program for you!
 
The RCMP Youth Academy is happening in April 2017 but the application process starts now!
 
The Academy gives candidates an opportunity to experience police training and to partake in police work simulations. The itinerary is split into three parts – physical training, drill and police theory.

BCIT Biotechnology Career Awareness Program


 
Attend at BCIT for one week
Workshop A:  Dec 12-16, 2016
 
Workshops include:
  • Biotechnology, ethics and its application
  • Cell Culture Theory
  • Application of Biotechnology
  • Lab work plus industry visits are also part of this program


Eligible students must:
  • Have an expressed interest in science-related curriculum, been enthusiastic about scientific research and lab work, and be interested in learning about careers related to biotechnology. 
  • Be a Grade 10, 11 or 12 student
  • Actively participate in the lab-based workshops and attend all session 
  • Be able to initiate and maintain conversation with practicing professionals at an industry site concerning occupational information and scientific focus
Cost:  $204.00
Deadline for applying is November 4, 2016

Automotive Detailer - Part Time Position

CLASSIC COLLISION is looking for a high school student to work as Automatic Detailer after school hours. 


Job entails:
  • washing the exterior of the vehicles
  • cleaning the interiors of the vehicles
  • general clean up in the shop
  • responsible in closing down procedures at the end of the day.

Work would be approximately 3 hours per day
Monday through Friday (ie 3:30pm to 6:30pm)
Those hours require some flexibility on any given day as the work warrants.  


The rate pay is $12.50 per hour. 
The candidate must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate both automatic and manual vehicles.

Vancouver Aquarium Work Experience Placement


Bilingual French Marine Educator - 2 to 4 students needed
As a work experience student, you will be working within a team of staff,   volunteers, and other students to teach young students (aged 4-9) about marine life using live animal displays, touchpools, and artifacts at the Vancouver Aquarium.


Wet Lab Marine Educator - 10 students needed
As a Work Experience Student, you will be: Providing the ultimate educational experience for our school-aged visitors (grades K-12) and connect our visitors to a wide variety of animals and ecosystems from local BC waters via our popular behind-the-scenes Wet Labs (2 exclusive and unique interactive classrooms including touch pools). You will also be caring for the Wet Labs live animal collection by assisting with animal husbandry tasks.

Lynn Valley Care Centre Volunteers





Work Experience Opportunity
For Students (age 16 to 18)
 
Lynn Valley Care Centre needs High School Students to volunteer throughout the school year.
 
Students should be interested in helping and working with elderly Residents through visits, doing simple activities or games, doing “Tea Times”, giving mealtime assistance or assist the elderly Residents in various ways or provide “Security” for those in the facility.

       Criminal Record Check

Since the processing of the Criminal Record Check takes several weeks, students who are interested in our volunteer program need to be encouraged to get that done promptly. Interview appointments for volunteering at Lynn Valley Care Centre are not made until after the student has received the Criminal Record Check Report back from the police, at which time the student then calls me to set up that appointment.
