This summer camp is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to get hands on experience with real forensic techniques.  Gain insight into the educational requirements for entrance into the field of forensics as well as information about programs in BCIT that students can take further their forensics careers.

Hands on Experience:
  • Identifying and packaging evidence from a crime scene
  • Looking for and identifying trace evidence
  • Analyzing DNA using basic lab techniques

Students will get  the opportunity to learn first hand from real, practicing professionals in the following fields:
  • Crime scene investigation
  • Trace evidence analysis
  • Forensic antrhopology
  • DNA Analysis
  • Forensic video and photography
  • Forensic knot analysis

Camp Ignite Mentorship Program (for Grades 11 - 12 Girls)

The North Vancouver City Fire Dept will be sponsoring one girl from North Vancouver to attend the Camp

Camp Ignite Mentorship Program was designed by Metro Vancouver female fire fighters specifically for girls. 

Camp Ignite is a four-day camp that educates and inspires young women through fire fighting activities designed to encourage teamwork, courage commitment, strength of character and health and fitness.  It will help girls realize a future of limitless opportunities and that regardless of gender, anything is possible.


Camp will run from August 7-10, 2014 in the Vancouver Area
Students must grades 11-16 (ages 16-18)

The YWCA Metro Vancouver High School Mentorship Program is hosting this forum

Play On! Vancouver - Volunteers and Referees Needed

Play On! is a Street Hockey festival with 30+ street rinks, that provides a unique, positive, and affordable recreational hockey experience for youth and adults of both genders and all ages at a grassroots level.

 

JUNE 7 - 8, 2014

 
Play On! are looking for around 100 volunteers, who will get the opportunity to spend the weekend outdoors participating in an exciting event while still collecting volunteer hours.

Volunteers - Soccer Tournament

Wickham FC is hosting an annual Soccer Tournament on the North Shore

(close to Sutherland at Loutet Park).

April 26 & 27



The tournament is an adult tournament that hosts 24 teams.  Games run from 9:00am - 6:00pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, take-down, selling food at the concession, cleaning the facilities, etc.

Lynn Canyon Ecology - Mini Camps

The Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre hosts mini camps (three mornings) on Spring and Summer break.

Most camps are for children ages 5-8.
 
  • Volunteers needed are for the program assistant position.  
  • This is for students who are new to working outdoors with children but who have a keen interest in doing so.   
  • Camps are primarily outdoors from 9:30-12:30, and volunteers come 15 minutes early.
  • volunteers should be comfortable working with children ages 5-8

SEA TO SKY HERITAGE FAIR

The Sea to Sky Heritage Fair is a daylong event that concludes in the evening with a celebration to recognize students’ achievements.   Students in grades 4-10 create heritage projects based on local or Canadian History. 

 

From 6-8pm Lynn Valley Village Plaza will come alive with music, entertainment and activities for the entire family as we celebrate these unique student projects.

  • Assist with the preparation, set-up, activities and clean-up

Requirements:
  • Volunteers must be 15+ years
  • Volunteers should enjoy working with the public and should have an interest in history

  • Must be available for a training session to take place on Friday May 2nd from 5:30-6:30 (pizza will be provided)
  • Volunteers should also be available to help-out one or two afternoons (after school) during the week leading to the event May 3-8th and/or Saturday May 10th in the morning to help with cleanup.
  • Must contact the museum to set-up a volunteer interview prior to volunteering

TEEN TECH TUTOR NEEDED!

LYNN VALLEY LIBRARY

That’s 3 hours a week for 9 weeks + a  3 hour training session for a total of 30 hours of work experience!
 

 

TEEN TECH VOLUNTEERS will meet with adults to help them with computer question and their devices, etc. 
 
 
Requirement:   You DON’T have to be tech wizards, all you need is patience and willingness to help adults learn and explore.
 
 
Come for the training session at Lynn Valley Library.   The training session will be a time to find out more about the program and decide if it’s a good fit for you.   There’s no pressure to make a commitment, you can come with no expectations.

Teen Book Buddies Needed!


Capilano Branch Library, Tuesdays this Spring 

April 1 through May 27 ~ Tuesdays 3:30pm-6:00pm

 

BOOK BUDDIES helps kids aged 6-11 who need support and encouragement in maintaining and improving their reading skills. Kids are matched with a teen volunteer, and for half an hour each week, Book Buddies read aloud to each other, choose books to take home and play literacy-based games
 
Requirements:
  • In grades 10, 11, or 12
  • LOVE reading and can enthuse others about it
  • Able to connect with younger children (including those with disabilities or who have English as a second language)
  • Super patient, supportive and willing to try different ways to engage kids who may be shy or reluctant in a non-judgemental, welcoming environment
  • Able to communicate clearly, effectively and courteously with kids, parents, library staff and fellow Book Buddies
  • Able to keep schedules, notes and statistics; write reports and operate simple office equipment

Tech-Easy are in need of youth volunteers from North Vancouver!

 

Duties: Help seniors by teaching them how to use computer technologies (laptops, iPad, cell phones, and etc.)
