REQUIREMENTS  for becoming a CANDY STRIPER/HEALTH CARE CADET:

• All applicants must have a Criminal Record Check done at the police station.  This is free to residents of North Vancouver so long as our cover letter is submitted by the applicant to the police stating that they are presently in the process of applying to become one of our volunteers.  Unfortunately, those residing in West Vancouver must pay a fee of $22 for the Criminal Record Check.  The Criminal Record Check Report will be returned by the police to the applicant.  After it has been received by the potential volunteer, then an appointment for interview, training and orientation can be made by calling the Coordinator of Volunteers (604-982-3709).
• Volunteers must commit to doing a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer work which must be completed within a 6 month period.
• Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age before beginning volunteer work.
• To volunteer during the winter months, the volunteer must have had the flu shot and submitted the document from a health professional that it has been administered

Volunteer with the Lions Gate Hospital - Youth Advisory Committee

Hey everyone!

The Lions Gate Hospital Foundation is looking for North Shore youth (16 – 22) volunteers for a Youth Advisory Committee.

This could be an excellent opportunity for a young person to develop fundraising/event/outreach/communications/marketing skills – as well as making some really great contacts in the healthcare, fundraising, and business industries.

Responsibilities are as follows:

                     Identify opportunities to involve North Shore youth with the Foundation

·

                     Promote the Foundation’s vision within the North Shore community, serve as an ambassador

·

                     Develop fundraising ideas for current initiatives/campaigns

·

                     Recommend appropriate communications vehicles to target the North Shore, particularly within schools

·

                     Assist with special events where appropriate

This could really pay off for anyone looking to get into a healthcare field, or is interested in fundraising or even in the business world.

The Basics:
DTSO invites 80 youth to Ottawa for training to become public health ambassadors that will make their schools and communities safer and better places.
It’s FREE! Yes, you read that right, the Forum is free.  We are happy to provide travel fare, room and board for youth participants. The age range we’re looking for is 15-18 years old (primary target), and 19-23 (secondary target). The maximum amount of participants that we can have at the forum is 120, of which (80% must be aged 15-18).
Educators and community leaders supporting youth in their community are welcome to come, however we ask that they pay for their own travel and a registration fee of $450 (that includes: room, board, and activities).

The Canadian Mental Health Association is looking for volunteers for its annual Ride Don’t Hide community bike ride. WHY:                   Other than having a lot of fun, you will be contributing to an event to that aims to reduce stigma by opening conversation about mental illness – something that affects 1 in 5 Canadians.  As a volunteer, you also receive food, a t-shirt, a reference letter with hours completed (if needed) and an opportunity to meet new people and have some laughs
