The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting 15 for our fall 2012 Work Experience Placement. As a work experience student, they will be working within a team of students and staff to create the ultimate visitor experience for all of our visitors this fall. Their days will be filled with fun and varied tasks and they will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world!

Description of Volunteer Opportunity:
·         Kiosk Attendant
·         Visitor Surveys
·         Crafts
·         Operating touch pools

Skills Preferred:
·         Outgoing, enthusiastic and self-motivated
·         Students currently in Grade 10, 11 or 12.
·         Genuine interest in working with the public
·         Strong communications skills
·         Experience with delivering excellent customer service
·         Second language an asset

Please Note: This is not an animal handling position.  Students will have limited contact with marine animals.

We have a couple of upcoming events that we need volunteers for. Following are the details. If you can help with either please reply to this email. We greatly appreciate it.
1. September 26 6:30 to 9 pm
We are looking for 4 people to assist in serving appetizers at our patron/donor evening. Some experience in serving and food safe an asset but not a requirement. Attire should be white or black shirt and black pants.
2. October 13 10 am to 3 pm
Gallery Opening.
. We are still looking for several people to assist in various capacities. No training necessary. We are looking for people to direct our guests, assist at art activities, show people around the building and to hand out favours. If you are available for one of the following shifts, please let us know.

Come and join us for a fun filled weekend with 2 stages of live music, craft booths, face painters, food and much more.  Reconnect with people you haven't seen since you had a full head of hair and wore bell bottoms!  Many of our performers are "kids" returning to our old stomping grounds to rock once again!  So whether you were there for the original Village Faire or a first timer to Village Faire II - 2012, all our welcome!

Vancouver Opera Work Experience

This program delivers an intensive, up-close view of what goes into an opera production and is specifically designed for students contemplating a career in the performing arts. Six students in Grades 11 or 12 are selected for each production and are led through the process by a Vancouver Opera docent. The 10-day schedule includes attending staging rehearsals, going on a backstage tour, meeting various opera staff and performers and may include a wigs and make-up demo. The week concludes with the students attending the final dress rehearsal. There are four opportunities this year to participate:
This program takes place over a very intense 10-day period.

    VCC Retail and Hospitality Careers

      There are still some openings in our new 38 week full-time program in   Retail and Hospitality Careers
       Students will be prepared to enter into competitive employment in the hospitality industry including hotels and senior’s care facilities, and will be training for employment options within the following divisions: Housekeeping, Guest Services, and Banquet/Convention Services. The program will provide specific skill training for those interested in working as room attendants, housepersons, runners, laundry workers, and banquet servers.
      The program begins in September with an introduction to job readiness skills, an industry orientation, worker safety, Foodsafe - Level 1, Serving it Right, First Aid Training, and WorldHost. The skills for employment will be introduced in the classroom and practised through 12 weeks of work experience in hotels or senior’s care facilities.

      Camp Counselors needed for the North Shore Crisis Services Society

      Juliana and the ACE Program have another fantastic summer camp planned for this summer for kids between the ages of 7-11. Camp runs on three separate weeks:
                              Week 1: Monday, July 23 - Thursday, July 26
                              Week 2: Monday, July 30 - Thursday, August 2
                              Week 3: Monday August 13 - Thursday August 16

      Daily activities may include swimming, crafts, going to Stanley Park and Second Beach pool or the water park, Trout Lake, Science World, or other activities depending on the weather.
      Who we are looking for…
                              Ø We are looking for volunteers aged 15 or older to help at our summer day camp. We need volunteers who are positive, energetic and who like working with younger kids. Experience with kids is an asset.
                              Ø As a volunteer, you would assist the camp counsellor to keep the kids organized and involved in the activities, and help to make it a fun experience for all.
                              Ø We need volunteers who can commit to at least one 4-day week, plus one training day
                              Ø On camp days, you would work 8:45 am – 4pm

                              Ø We will give you all the information and training you need to make it a rewarding experience

      You can attend a one week work experience or be a student writer.

      RCMP Summer Volunteer Program

      WORK EXPERIENCE in POLICING

      Partnering with Capilano Suspension Bridge, Grouse Mountain, and the District of North Vancouver, students will volunteer with the RCMP "Keeping our Community Safe and Crime Free"
      Be ambassadors for North Vancouver
      Learn Police Leadership Skills
      Be a presence and deter crime
      Observe, Record and Report any Crime detected.
      Training and tshirt provided.

      This program is designed to decrease theft and damage to vehicles during the tourist season.

      Volunteer ---Canada Day on Granville Island!!!

      Granville Island is celebrating Canada Day and we need your help!

      Canada Day on Granville Island is an exciting and dynamic event celebrated every year, bringing together community members from the Lower Mainland and around the world, in a fun and positive way.

      We are looking for volunteers to help in some of the following ways;
      being a Greeters,                     helping out at the Tattoo Station,         marching in the Parade                    
       assisting in our huge cake ceremony                           and more!!
      If you are an energetic, helpful, outgoing, polite individual, we would love to have you on board!
