Summer Camp for High School Students

Are you a high school student interested in a career in Forensics?
Do you know a high school student who might want to explore a Forensics career?
Students attending the 2010 CSI Academy in Burnaby
This summer camp is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to get hands on experience with real forensic techniques. Learn how real investigators examine and process crime scenes, as well as analyze evidence and use DNA technology to try to solve a crime.
We're looking for high school students going into grades 10, 11 and 12 who want to gain insight into the educational requirements for entrance into the field of forensics, as well as information about programs here at BCIT that they can take to further their forensics careers.
What do students do and learn about at the Academy? Here's some of the hands on experience they'll receive:
  • Identifying and packaging evidence from a crime scene
  • Looking for and identifying trace evidence
  • Analyzing DNA using basic lab techniques

Students will also get the opportunity to learn first hand from real, practising professionals in the following fields:
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Trace Evidence Analysis
  • Forensic Anthropology
  • DNA Analysis
  • Forensic Video and Photography
  • Forensic Knot Analysis

Volunteer at the Community Clothing Swap

I'm a Carson Graham alumnus who now attends Simon Fraser University and I'm working with a team to put on a not for profit charity event this May.

We're hoping to enlist the help of students from different schools in the area to expand the community's knowledge of our event and also to offer a good opportunity for high school students to gain volunteer hours and experience.


WHAT:   The Community Clothing Swap, works to promote green recycling of clothing and to collect clothing to donate to underprivileged youths on the downtown east-side through Covenant House.

WHEN: The swap will occur in mid-May, either on the 12th or the 19th, and would offer up to 6 hours of volunteer work on that day as well as other ways to participate, including poster distribution, clothing collection, etc.

WHEN: MAy 12 and/or May19th

 Anyone is welcome to get  involved, either through volunteering or attending the event as a participant.

Genome BC Summer Camp

Law Event This Saturday 10-3






Your chance to watch an arrest go down, take in a court proceeding or take a tour of a courthouse will take place on Saturday, April 14, 2012.


Residents of the North Shore and beyond are invited to ‘Law Day – 2012 Open House’ at the North Vancouver Provincial Courthouse, 200 East 23rd Street, North Vancouver.
From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., a variety of presentations and simulations will be available regarding the many avenues of the criminal justice system, including:
  • First Responders
  • Criminal Court Process
  • First Nations Court Process
  • Family Court
  • Youth Court
  • Civil Court Process
  • Community Stakeholders and Volunteer Agencies


The open house will have information, education and fun for the whole family, including police vehicles and equipment, K9 demonstrations, cell tours, displays and more.


The West Vancouver Police Department, along with the North Vancouver R.C.M.P. will be presenting a simulated crime scene and walk-through of the justice system from arrest to prosecution, and court proceedings.  An ‘adult offence’ simulation will start at 10:00 a.m. and a ‘youth offence’ can be viewed at 1:00 p.m. (courthouse parking lot).


‘Law Day 2012 – Open House’ is organized by the North Shore Family Court and Youth Justice Committee that serves as a link between the community and the justice system.

A joint conservation initiative between the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF Canada, the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup™, aims to promote understanding of shoreline litter issues by engaging Canadians to rehabilitate shoreline areas through cleanups.
The Shoreline Cleanup, presented by Loblaw Companies Ltd., is now one of the largest direct action environmental events in Canada, engaging tens of thousands of participants annually across the nation. Each year, public support and general awareness of the program has increased, inspiring more volunteers to join and make a difference. We hope you will join us in making this year's shoreline cleanup the biggest yet.

CityFest 2012 - May 5th, 12 to 4pm
