RE: Interpretation Work Experience Placement

 

The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting for our Fall 2013 Interpretive Work Experience Placement. As a work experience student, they will be working within a team of students, volunteers, and staff to create the ultimate visitor experience. Their days will be filled with fun and varied tasks and they will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world!

Mandatory Training: Core Training September 29th from 10am to 3:30pm
Specific department training Mon Oct 7 and Wednesday Oct 9 from 5:30- 9pm
 
Group A
October 20-22, 27-29, Nov. 3-5, 10-12
 
Group B
October 23-26, 30-Nov 2, Nov 6-9, and 13-16
 
 
Shift times 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Description of Volunteer Opportunity:
·         Daily self-led training modules
·         Touchpool demonstrations
·         Hosting educational gallery carts
·         Face painting and crafts
·         Taking visitor surveys
·         Assisting with staff-led interpretive shows
·         Assisting with office duties such as data entry, laundry, and some cleaning/tidying of supplies
 
Skills Preferred:
·         Outgoing, enthusiastic and self-motivated
·         Students currently in Grade 8-12
·         Genuine interest in marine life
·         Strong communications skills
·         Experience with delivering excellent customer service (or willingness to learn quickly!)
·         Second language an asset
·         Ability to learn information quickly
·         Ability to work effectively in team projects.
·         Willingness to lead educational activities in partners or independently.
Please note: The daily self-led training activities require students to complete some written tests and follow written instructions.
