‘Visitor Experience Gallery Assistant’ Work Experience Placement’


We are looking for 16 highly motivated, energetic students to fill the fall Work Experience Placement.  This placement will provide an excellent opportunity for students to gain interpretation experience, customer service skills, develop a sense of teamwork and explore career options.  Applicants will be accepted based on the student's work experience objectives and personal interests, as indicated in a cover letter and resume, as well as the needs of the Interpretation Department and Visitor Experience Team.  

Job Description:  
·         Admissions Greeter
·         Gallery Greeter
·         Visitor Surveys
·         Info Desk Greeter
·         Gallery Interpretation
·         Touch Pool Interpretation
·         Face painting and crafts

Students will be working within a team of students and staff to create the ultimate visitor experience for all of our visitors during the fall promotion and campaign. Their days will be filled with fun and varied tasks and they will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world.

Please Note:  This is not an Animal Care placement; students will not be working with marine mammals.

Skills Preferred:
·         Outgoing, enthusiastic and self-motivated
·         Students in Grade 10, 11 or 12
·         Genuine interest in working with the public
·         Strong communications skills
·         Experience with delivering excellent customer service
·         Able to work independently as well as in a team setting
·         Ability to follow instructions
·         Second language an asset

Mandatory Training for all groups: Saturday February 11, 2012 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Placement Days (8 students per group):
Group C:  February 13 – February 26, 2012                                               
Group D: February 27 – March 9, 2012


Shift Times: 10:00am – 4:00pm daily

Each placement period will last two weeks. Days off will be staggered throughout the placement.

Please note: There are 2 different groups.  Please indicate inyour cover letter which group you are applying for.

The deadline to submit applications is 5pm Thursday February 2nd.
