Check it out .....Albert is in grade 12 and running Tech Easy!
See Mrs Watson if you want to apply and get WEX credits. Or contact Albert directly on his website.
You could volunteer at the local senior center.
Tech-Easy is a youth-led
volunteer organization that encourages high-school youths to help seniors by
teaching them how to use computer technology (laptops, iPad, cell phones, and
etc.)
What we do is we send groups of youth volunteer to assigned retirement
homes, community centres, libraries, and neighbourhood houses across Vancouver
and have the youths be responsible for conducting a specific lesson. We offer
various lessons ranging from iPad lessons to drop-in styled clinics. The lessons
will usually be tailored to the retirement homes' need. Prior to volunteering,
we would let our volunteers know which type of lessons they will be leading and
how they should proceed.
A new school
year has begun! Tech-Easy is also looking for new volunteers to join us! Over
the summer, our volunteers have done an incredible job at hosting lessons at
many new locations. You can check out our work at www.tech-easy.ca. We have also filmed a video about Tech-Easy
and the kind of things we do. You can view it at the link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8kRdiNhD8w.
I saw that
your school has a career/ volunteer program for high-school students and I
think that it would be an excellent opportunity for the students to join
Tech-Easy and help give back to the community. Of course, they can also do it to
fulfill extra-curricular activities (acquiring volunteer hours required for
school, gaining a new skill/position to put on their resume, and many more.)
Volunteering for seniors is something that is very rewarding and I think that
the students will like it too :) Please let
me know if you might be interested in joining us!
On our
website at www.tech-easy.ca we post things like event pictures for new volunteers
to get a sense of what it is like volunteering with us! We also have an official
Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tech-Easy/312455455470426.
