Childrens Festival-Volunteer in May

The Vancouver International Children's Festival needs volunteers May 27 to June 2

Sara Macintosh and Faith Gazmen are the Sutherland KEY Volunteers- organizing the 30 volunteers needed from Sutherland School.  We need Face Painters,  Traffic control, site monitors French Speakers and more.

This is an amazing week long event supported  almost exclusively by 1500 volunteers.

Applications are on the bulletin board, on line, from Sara or Faith....until the end of February!

Sea to Sky Nordic Festival needs Volunteers

Sea to Sky Nordic Festival Volunteer Program:

Come celebrate Nordic sports in the Callaghan Valley!
March 15-30th will see over 800 athletes compete in Biathlon Nationals & North American Biathlon Championships, Ski Jumping & Nordic Combined Canadian Nationals, and Haywood Ski Nationals Cross-Country events.
All of the best Nordic skiers and jumpers in Canada including Olympic and World Championship Medalists will compete.  This includes Cross-Country athletes Chandra Crawford, Alex Harvey and Devon Kershaw along with World Cup winning women's Ski Jumper Alexandra Pretorious.

The Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) is offering an exciting opportunity for 8 to 10 secondary school students to gain volunteer experience and work to restore important habitats in Stanley Park. Time Commitment: March 18th-21st (Monday to Thursday) for 5 hours (10am - 3pm) each day. Duties Volunteers will work as a team over the duration of the week to:
 Remove targeted invasive species from selected areas
 Restore and enhance degraded habitats by planting native vegetation and placing coarse woody debris
 Help to maintain and develop the native plant nursery by weeding and planting cuttings
 Talk with the public about ecology and invasive species in Stanley Park as needed
 Support fellow team members by maintaining a positive attitude and showing dedication while accomplishing tasks
Training will be provided on:
Identification of native and invasive plant species and proper planting techniques  Safe and effective techniques for removing invasive species
 General outdoor safety practices
Benefits
Gain volunteer experience in environmental conservation while working outdoors  Learn about west coast ecology, local conservation and restoration issues
 Make a difference to conservation and restoration of habitats in Stanley Park
 Gain volunteer hours while developing team building and leadership skills
 A letter of reference is available upon completion of the project
Requirements
18 years old or younger  Effective communication skills
 Willingness to be active outdoors, in all weather conditions
 Reliable, punctual and able to commit to participating for the
duration of the week March 18th-21st, from 10am-3pm each day
 Interested in nature, wildlife, and environmental conservation
 Enthusiastic about contributing to habitat restoration
