Minerals Ed - Spring Break Volunteer Admin Position

MineralsEd is a not for profit educational organization that is dedicated to encouraging and supporting Earth science, mineral resources and mining education in BC schools.

The work experience position is for:
  • 2 students in the role of Education Program Assistant (downtown Vancouver office)

The Program Assistant will assist the MineralsEd Director and Coordinator as needed. This will include: • assist in the assembly of teaching kit materials (e.g. labelling and bagging rock and mineral specimens, collating posters, duplicating files on USBs, compiling experiment kits). Depending on the student's skills may also include: • assist in updating web site entries • assist with online search for useful geology and mining newsThe student will also be introduced to mining related companies and organizations in downtown Vancouver, including those that are hosting other Work Experience students that week


Qualifications - A basic knowledge of Earth science, rocks and minerals • Excellent written and verbal English language skills • Competency using MS Word and MS Excel • Ability to work within and contribute to a small team and to work alone.  
Work Hours Monday -Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm; 30 minute lunch break at noon  

Position is being offered during the week of Spring break from March 23-27.

Teck Resources is offering a one week long Work Experience position during 
Spring Break, March 23-27, 2020.

Teck is a major Canadian mining company with head office in Vancouver and operations in many parts of North and South America that mine metallurgical coal, copper, zinc and oil sands.

The work experience position is for:
1 student as Administrative Assistant, , Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting (downtown Vancouver office). The ideal candidate for the Administrative Assistant position should be interested in Business Administration, Accounting and Finance fields. Through this placement, the student will develop an understanding of working in a professional environment, gain exposure to Teck’s daily business administration activities, data management strategies and how it is applied and implemented within Teck’s operations.

Our goal is to inspire, inform and encourage students to follow their medical dreams and head bravely into their future endeavors.

OMS was started by a group of high school students in Vancouver, BC in 2012. Each conference gives students a new approach to medical careers through activities and lectures by medical experts. It is the perfect chance for high school students to explore the medical field, meet peers who share the same passion, and speak with knowledgeable medical professionals.

OMS has been creating an opportunity for youth to gain valuable leadership and event management skills since it began in 2012 as a conference for high school students from high school students. As the organization has grown, each city conference continues to be organized by a team of local high school students.

In our new, hands-on information session format, learn about the Fire Fighting Technologies Certificate (FFTC) program and get a taste of firefighting by practicing some essential firefighting skills at one of Western Canada’s most extensive firefighting training facilities.

Cost to participate is $25.  

Minimum age to participate is 18. 

As the information session will involve some strenuous physical activity, participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle and dress in appropriate active wear.

The Wellness Show- Volunteers Wanted



The Wellness Show at the Vancouver Convention Centre will once again be requiring a large number of volunteers.

The volunteer hours are as follows:
 

Friday January 31st 5:30pm – 7:30pm (set-up 12:00 noon-6:00 pm)
Saturday February 1st 9:00 am - 7:30 pm (show 10:00 am-7:00 pm)
Sunday February 2nd 9:00 am - 6:30 pm (show 10:00 am-6:00 pm) & 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm (tear-down)


Stage Assistant, Runners and Show Office Assistant positions, this is where we really need help and students should be able to sign up with friends. The Feature Area is Ping Pong again this year so that is also a great area to be all day!

Join G08 Arts-Based Teen Program (2015 Spring Break)

This March Break, Satellite Gallery, an exhibition space shared by four public art galleries - Charles H. Scott (ECUAD), Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery (UBC), the Museum of Anthropology (UBC) and Presentation House Gallery, are running an arts-based teen program called G08.  



Students (grades 11 and 12) from any discipline as various as the arts, theater and the sciences are strongly encouraged to apply. 

G08
  • designed to inspire, engage and excite youth to become immersed in Vancouver's Contemporary art world, to work collaboratively, and to create a public art project with the group.  Final project ideas could include creating a flash mob event, a temporary public art piece, or a new work for the Gallery's Seymour storefront window.
  • will meet for five days over the 2015 spring break at the centre of downtown Vancouver, above CLUB 560.
  • will be led by a high-school art teacher, senior university students, gallery professionals and Vancouver-based artists. It will include a public art tour, artist studio visits, workshops as well as gallery and exhibition tours.

The program is free of charge and can be applied to a student's work experience hours required for graduation.

Submit your application by February 6, 2015 before 6 pm for early consideration.  Final deadline is on February 20, 2015 before 6pm.

Be a Gene Researcher for a Week in 2015

The Canadian Gene Cure Foundation is looking for mature, capable high school students age 16.

You must be:
  • passionate about science and intrigued by genetics
  • have an overall average of at least 85%
  • can write a brilliant essay to demonstrate your excitement about science and your advanced communication skills
  • can convince a teacher to write a stunning reference for you

Gene Researcher for a Week (GRFAW) program is your opportunity to gain insight into the world of genetic diseases through a mentorship in one of Canada’s top genetic labs. This program is designed to provide a learning experience for students that have not had extensive lab experience from other programs or work experience opportunities.

Participants can learn how genes cause human genetic disorders and how top scientists translate these findings into treatments and cures for genetic diseases.

In this program you will participate in the activities in the lab with as much hands on experience as possible*. The GRFAW mentoring program is a great opportunity for YOU to learn about human genetics research and connect with the scientific community.
