REEL2REAL Film Festival needs you!!

If you love watching movies, then we need you!

If you're between the ages of 9 and 19 and love movies, send us a film review and you
could be one of our Youth Jury members at the 15th annual Reel 2 Real International
Film Festival in 2013.

Just write us a short review (50 to 100 words) of any movie and fill out the registration form which you can download from our website.

Senior Jury: Participants who are in Grades 8-12

AS A JURY MEMBER, YOU WILL:
• Attend the Reel 2 Real with free admission to the films your jury with judge;
• Watch the films in special jury seats;
• Choose a winning film and provide reasons for your choice; and
• Enjoy popcorn and drinks.

AS A JURY MEMBER, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:
• To attend every eligible screening as per the schedule provided;
• To come to a firm and fair decision in full co-operation with other jury members;
• To represent the Festival professionally in any and all media appearances; and
• To have fun!

RE: Staying Alive Educator Work Experience Placement

The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting 15 students for our
Staying Alive Educator Work Experience Placement.

As a work experience student, you will be working within a team of staff,   volunteers, and other students to teach young students (aged 4-9) about marine life using live animal displays, touchpools, and artifacts at the      Vancouver Aquarium.

Students will volunteer 1 day out of the week, from the      following choices:

Monday       9:00am-2:00pm    (5 students)  


Wednesday 9:00am-2:00pm    ( 5 students)

Thursday          9:00am-2:00pm    ( 5 students)

Placement Duration: Monday, February 4th 2013, to Friday April 26th, 2013 excluding the following holidays (Feb. 11, March 18- April 1)

Volunteer
Opportunity:
This placement will provide an excellent opportunity for students to build their knowledge regard to marine life and the marine environment while gaining teaching experience, communication skills, developing a sense of teamwork and exploring career options through:

·         participating in daily teaching routines and operations in our galleries and behind the scenes
·         participating in and facilitating safe handling of marine invertebrate animals as well as animal artifacts
·         teaching children about marine life and the major   conservation issues affecting it
Skills Preferred:









Please Note:

·         Outgoing, enthusiastic and self-motivated
·         Students currently in Grades 10, 11 or 12.
·         High level of professionalism and commitment
·         Interest in marine biology, teaching, working with children, or any combination thereof
·         Experience and/or genuine interest in educating or interacting with students
·         Strong English oral communications skills
·         Second language an asset

Previous teaching or biology experience is an asset but not necessary-training will be provided.

Volunteer Benefits:
·         Gain experience in working in groups
·         Build knowledge of marine life and marine environment
·         Gain teaching experience in an informal setting
·         Priority placement in the volunteer training
·         Gain work experience hours


Please note: There are 3 different placement options.  Please indicate clearly on the student information form which days the student is applying for in order of preference.  Please only indicate that day(s) of the week you are able to commit to.
