RE: Climate Change Educator/Assistant
We are looking for 4 highly motivated, energetic students to fill the Climate Change Educator/Assistant Placement. This placement will provide an excellent opportunity for students to gain teaching experience, group leadership, communication skills, develop a sense of teamwork and explore career options. Applicants will be accepted based on the student's work experience objectives and personal interests, as indicated in a cover letter and resume, as well as the needs of the School Programs Department.
Job Description:
Assist School Program Coordinators with the delivery of the Climate Change School Program. Our programs are designed to inspire wonder, curiosity and environmental stewardship in students.
This program is a problem-solving "living board game" that challenges groups to work as a team. Students work to find clues, carry their ‘carbon load’ and perform mini-conservation actions. Moving from station to station, students discover where their food and consumer products are produced as well as their hidden carbon costs. The aquarium's Climate Change educators will facilitate team-building, and provide mentoring to students learning about local and global sustainability.
Skills Preferred:
· Experience educating or interacting with children; · Strong leadership/mentorship ability · Outgoing, creative, enthusiastic and self-motivated · Students in Grade 11 and 12 · Interested in marine biology · High level of professionalism and commitment |
· Strong English language communication skills
Term of Position:
Mandatory Training
Friday January 13th from 9am - 3:00pm
Participate in one Friday shift per week:
· Climate Change (grade 4-7)
Fridays between Jan13th -April 27th 2012
Shift from 9:00am to 2:45pm
This position helps the Vancouver Aquarium achieve its mission by promoting conservation through education.
