RE: January 2013 Work Experience Placement

The Vancouver Aquarium is currently recruiting 15 for our January 2013 Work Experience Placement. As a work experience student, they will be working within a team of students and staff to create the ultimate visitor experience for all of our visitors. Their days will be filled with fun and varied tasks and they will have the opportunity to engage, amaze and inspire thousands of guests of all ages and from all around the world!

Mandatory Group Interview:
Sunday January 6, 2013 from 4:00pm – 5:00pm
*Short listed candidates will be invited for a group interview at the aquarium. Candidates will be contacted by Monday December 17, 2012.

Mandatory Training: ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Sunday January 13, 2013 from     
                                  9:00am – 5:00pm
Group A January 14 – February 2  (5 students)
Specific Dates: January 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 31, February 1, 2

Group B February 3 - 23 (5 students)
Specific Dates: February 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23

Group C February 24 – March 15 (5 students)
Specific Dates: February 24, 25, 28, March 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15

Shift times 9:15am – 4:00pm

Please Note: Students in Group B and C will need to complete one 6 hour shadow shift prior to their start date.

Description of Volunteer Opportunity:
·         Kiosk Attendant
·         Visitor Surveys
·         Crafts
·         Operating touch pools
·         4D assistant
·         Face painting
·         Information Desk Attendant
·         Educational Carts

Skills Preferred:
·         Outgoing, enthusiastic and self-motivated
·         Students currently in Grade 10, 11 or 12.
·         Genuine interest in working with the public
·         Strong communications skills
·         Experience with delivering excellent customer service
·         Second language an asset

Please Note: This is not an animal handling position.  Students will have limited contact with marine animals.
